Dr. John Baptist Buehner, Jr.

Dr. John Baptist Buehner, Jr. of 1700 West Washington St. Springfield, IL, formerly of 703 Pine Ridge Drive, Quincy, IL died on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 1:26 p.m. in his home. Dr. Buehner was born August 5, 1925 in Quincy, a son of Dr. John B. Buehner, Sr. and Mrs. Emma R. (Blaesing) Buehner. He married Beverly G. Swanborn on November 19, 1960 in Bloomington, IL and she survives.

Dr. Buehner practiced podiatry from 1953 until his retirement in 1993. He had offices in Beardstown, and in Quincy at the W.C.U. Building. During his medical career, he served many residents of local nursing homes. He attended school in Quincy, beginning with grade school at St. Francis School, he was a graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School and Quincy College. He graduated from the Illinois College of Podiatry in 1953.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, as a Hospital Apprentice First Class, stationed in San Diego, CA.

Dr. Buehner was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Quincy. He was a member of the Illinois and American Podiatry Medical Associations, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #37, and the Elks and Moose Lodges. He had also served on the Board of Directors of the Beardstown Credit Union.

In his younger years, he enjoyed playing tennis and ping-pong, and while in Beardstown he participated in League Bowling for many years. A favorite hobby of his was collecting coins, he especially liked the 50 State Quarters Program.

He was first and foremost, a devoted family man.

In addition to his wife Mrs. Beverly G. Buehner of Springfield, survivors also include a son,
John E. Buehner and his wife Molly Hall of Petersburg, IL; a granddaughter, Allison Buehner of Oak Park, IL; a sister, Mrs. George (Mary Kay) Sunderland of Quincy; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mrs. Stanley (Betty Ann) DelaBar.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Quincy. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion Post #37 and the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Detail. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Church. The family requests that memorials be given to a charity or organization of the donor’s choice. Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
