Dr. Bashir H. Mamdani

Dr. Bashir H. Mamdani, age 68, of 1814 Wilmar Drive, Quincy, formerly of Oak Park, IL died on Friday, October 3, 2014 in his home. He was born on November 20, 1945 in Tanga, Tanzania the son of Hassanali Jumabhai Ebrahim Mamdani & Fatma (nee Abdulrasool) Hassanali Ebrahim Mamdani. He married Meenal B. (nee Gothoskar) Mamdani on
December 19, 1971 in Bombay, India. She survives. Dr. Mamdani was a Nephrologist and worked at Cook County Hospital in Chicago from 1972 until 1998. He graduated from St. Xavier’s College and Seth G. S. Medical College both in Bombay, India.

Dr. Mamdani was a founding member of Prayas, Inc. and the Indian Journal of Medical Ethics. He was a founding trustee of G.M. Trust, Mumbai India. Dr. Mamdani loved making children smile with his funny face contests, and loved confounding dinner guests with his contrarian debates. He also enjoyed computer programming, photography (especially restoring old family photographs) and cooking/baking, where his specialty was Stromboli and Focaccia.

In addition to his wife he is also survived by:
TWO SONS: Arif B. Mamdani (Channing McKinley) of St. Paul MN and Saleem B. Mamdani (Jamie Friye) of Quincy IL.
FOUR GRANDCHILDREN: Satya, Rasana, Priya and Teo Mamdani
TWO BROTHERS: Awnali H. Mamdani (Jenny) of Canada and Gulam Haider H. Mamdani (Rose) of Scotland.
ONE SISTER: Raihana R. Bhimani of Canada.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ebrahim H. Mamdani.

Private services were held. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
