Dorothy Schlipman

Dorothy F. Schlipman, age 89, of Sunset Home, formerly of 113 E. Waterford Street, Quincy, died on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. in Blessing Hospital. She was born on September 27, 1919 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of Frank Jr. and Irma (Triebel) Druffel. She married Kenneth O. Schlipman on October 27, 1945 in St. Francis Solanus Church in Quincy. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1989.

She attended St. Francis Grade School and Notre Dame High School.

In her earlier years, Dorothy worked for S. S. Kresge Company and Heckenkamp Florist in Quincy. She also worked for a short time in the office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. Dorothy was also a homemaker.

Dorothy was a long-time member of St. Peter Catholic Church, past-member of their Social Concerns Committee, and past-member of the Ladies of Charity. Dorothy enjoyed reading and playing cards.

She is survived by:
FOUR CHILDREN Karen Lavery and her husband Mike of Quincy, Kenneth Schlipman, Jr., and his wife Karen of Centennial, CO, Bill Schlipman and his wife Sharon of Quincy; and Janet Mann and her husband Clay of Hannibal, MO;
TWELVE GRANDCHILDREN: Michelle Lavery of Evanston, IL, John Lavery and his wife Carrie of Quincy, Kristin George and her husband Matthew of Quincy, Dr. Matthew Lavery and his wife Dr. Jessica Gillespie of Santa Monica, CA, Mark Lavery and his wife Laura of St. Albans, MO, Joe Schlipman and his wife Natalie of Coral Gables, FL, Jenae Neiman and her husband Kevin of Denver, CO, Lea Klein and her husband Joe of Denver, CO, Jay Schlipman of Denver, CO, Bill Schlipman, Jr., and his wife Heidi of Quincy, Mark Schlipman and his wife Tricia of Quincy, and David Schlipman and his wife Colleen of Quincy;
FOURTEEN GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Calvin and Charlie Lavery of Quincy, Ryan and Lance Lavery of St. Albans, MO, Claudine and Balen Schlipman of Coral Gables, FL, Ella and Benjamin Neiman of Denver, CO, Alex, Avery, Alayna, Drew, Macy and Breana Schlipman of Quincy;
ONE SISTER-IN-LAW: Marguerite Schlipmann.
Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Charles Druffel and a sister, Marjorie Frese.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter by Father John Burnette. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Church of St. Peter, the Ladies of Charity, or the James A. Schlipmann Melanoma Cancer Foundation.
