Dorothy Helen Kohl

Dorothy Helen Kohl of Granite City,IL died Thursday February 7th in the Stearns Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Granite City, IL. Dorothy was 78 years old.

Dorothy was born on March 5, 1934 in Quincy, IL. She was the daughter of Carl J. and Helen Theresa Stegeman. She married Richard Charles Kohl on June 29, 1957. She and Richard moved to Granite City where they raised their five children.

Dorothy graduated from Notre Dame high school in 1952 and she attended Quincy University and Gem City business college. She studied art and throughout life continued to be passionate about her painting. Dottie, as her friends called her, was a gifted artist with a loving and giving spirit. She had a kind word and a good deed for everyone she encountered. She is very loved and will be terribly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are Richard Kohl, her husband of 55 years; her five children, Paula Kohl, Theresa and her husband Tim Johnson, Mary and her husband Bryan McDonald, Richard Kohl Jr., and Kevin and his wife Valerie Kohl; her four grandchildren, Caden, Kaylee, Lily and Abigail; her brother Leo Stegeman and his wife Marilyn, her brother Carl Stegeman and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Paul Stegeman, Richard Stegeman, Herbert Stegeman and Arthur Stegeman.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home in Quincy

Services: Tuesday 9:30 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Francis Church followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials: Memorial in memory of Dorothy Helen Kohl may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

    Paula, I just returned from vacation and heard about your mom. I am so sorry for your loss. She was always so sweet to me and to my kids. Having lost my dad recently I understand what you are going through. My prayers are with you and your family.
