Dorothy Evelyn Viar
Dorothy Evelyn Viar age 93, of 2130 Harrison St., formerly of 120 North 25th Street and rural Liberty, died on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 7:35 p.m. in Good Samaritan Home. She was born February 3, 1922 in rural Kellerville, IL a daughter of Jake and Edith (Corrigan) Gramke. She married Farris L. Viar on May 29, 1952 in St. Brigid Church, in Liberty, IL and he survives.
She graduated from Clayton and Liberty High Schools, and she had completed coursework in art at Western Illinois University.
Dorothy was a devout Catholic and a member of the Church of St. Peter. She was a member of the 12th Street Artists, and she loved to paint, especially watercolors. She had completed a special piece of art for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Most of all, Dorothy loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed gardening, baking pies, playing the piano and a game of cards.
In addition to her husband Farris, survivors include her children, Alice Kirby and her husband Kevin of Homer, IL; Anna Bollom and her husband Dean of Stoughton, WI and Larry Viar and his wife Debra of Quincy; Nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Ed Viar of Quincy and a sister-in-law Faunda Dryer of Pigeon Forge, TN and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and their husbands, Ruth (Richard) Cramsey; Rosalee (Russell) Koch; and in-laws, Rita Viar, Elmer Dreyer, Shirley and Bob Richardson; Mae and Cecil Bowen.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter, by the Rev. Tom Donovan. Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Church of St. Peter.
