Doris Jean Long

Doris Jean Long age 72, of Quincy, died on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 2:25 p.m. in Sunset Home. Doris was born September 5, 1943 in Quincy, IL a daughter of Albert John and Marguerite Ann (Bange) Feldott.

Doris worked as a Registered Nurse, for thirty eight years retiring in 2002 after working 20 years at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. She was a graduate of Ewing High School and received her R.N. Degree in 3 years, graduating in 1964 from St. Elizabeth Hospital in Dayton, OH. Doris felt that nursing fulfilled all of her expectations of caring for people. She was inspired by many, and relied on her faith when her own life was changed and she became dependent upon others to care for her. She was so very grateful for her entire family, from who she received love and support. Her daughter Chris was the light of her life, who gave her the strength and courage to endure.

Doris was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish where she was a member of the choir.

She was also a member of the China Guild. Doris loved going to movies and attending Quincy Community Theater productions. Her favorite pastimes were crocheting, art, and enjoying music.

During her time at Sunset Home, and Curtis Creek Retirement Center she truly enjoyed participating in the activities they hosted, and she herself started a prayer group at both residences.

Survivors include her daughter Christina Marie Long of Augusta, IL;
Brothers and sisters, Sr. Jeanette Feldott, S.S.N.D. of Quincy; Donald E. Feldott and his wife Bonnie of Belleville, IL; Gerald R. Feldott and his wife Nancy of Hampden, MA; Cheryl Thevil and her husband Michael of Quincy; and half-sisters, Berneda Kluza of Orange Park, FL and Betty Lay of Chicago, IL. Nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a half -brother, Eugene Feldott; and a son Jeffrey Geiger Long.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Monsignor Michael Kuse. Interment will be in Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, IL at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to: Blessed Sacrament Parish or to a trust for her daughter, Christina Long.

In Doris’s own words: “I listened, I followed Christ, He gave me Faith Hope, Love, Courage and Strength.”

    Cheryl, Christie and family, It is with sadness that I read about Doris. I worked with her at SMH and cared for her after her accident. Enjoyed our SMH Christmas gathering that she always made happen. I will honor her memory when we gather this year.

    She will so miss. I hsd honer to work with her at St.Mary Hospital. I can still see her dress in her white uniform and her nurses hat. She wore with pride and honor . She will miss at Sunset Home, rest in peace my friend.

    So sorry to hear of Doris’ passing. Got to know Doris through the Ice Creame shoppe at Sunset. Always looked forward to seeing her there. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
