Donald Ray “Donnie” Laws

Donald Ray “Donnie” Laws, age 66, died on Sunday, November 13, 2022, in the home of his daughter surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 21, 1956, in Quincy, a son of William T. and Mary Louise (O’Connor) Laws. He married Heidi Redenius in 1981 and had 3 children.

Don had a lifelong passion for airplanes, cars, and motorcycles. His love of machines began at a young age when he would build and fly model planes with his father. After high school he attended Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Tulsa, Oklahoma and became an aircraft mechanic working at the Quincy Airport for 46 years.

In his free time Don enjoyed working on projects around his house or working on his cars. He was the kind of person that could talk to anyone about anything and was a friend to everyone. He would often do things to help others and ask for nothing in return. Listening to music with his friends and family brought a smile to his face that could light up a room.

He is survived by two children: Brian Laws (April) of Canton, MO and Shannon Stupavksy (Drew) of Quincy. Five grandchildren: Hopie Laws, Miley Stephens, Willow Stephens, Samuel Stupavsky, and Margaret Stupavsky. Siblings: Jerry Laws, Billy Laws (Joan), and Diane Aden (John). Sisters-in-Law: Linda Laws, Debbie Laws, and Rhonda Gray. Numerous nieces, nephews, multiple foster grandchildren, and other relatives also survive.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, a son Evan Scott Laws, and siblings: Dave, Jack, and Bob.

A Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. A gathering to celebrate Don’s life will be held at a later time. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Cancer Center. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is overseeing the arrangements.

Donnie Ray (as we called him) was so much fun. Back in the 1960s the Laws family lived next door to my Grandma & Grandpa Heinze on Elm Street. Our summer trips to Quincy included many ice cream cones from the Modern Dairy and great times playing with Donnie Ray and Bobbie. My family sends our heartfelt condolences from Ohio.

    Dear Bill and Laws Family,
I was totally shocked to hear of Donnie’s passing. He was a really great guy. Whenever I talked to him, he could always make me laugh. If there’s one person that Donnie couldn’t make laugh, then that person doesn’t have any funny bones in their body. Donnie was a good person and leaves behind many friends. He is in God’s hands now.
