Donald Leo Smith

Donald Leo Smith, age 80, of 1300 Chestnut St. Quincy, died on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 8:10 a.m. in his home. He was born on October 7, 1933 in Louisiana, MO, a son of Donald William & Amanda Ellen (McCleary) Smith. He married Wanda Louise Schmidt on March 19, 1955 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on January 24, 2013.

Donald retired in 1999 from his employment as a welder with Doyle Manufacturing. He also previously worked as a commercial fisherman.

He was a member of the Masonsic Lodge 296 and of the United Commercial Fishermen. Don hunted and fished for many years. He enjoyed trap & skeet shooting and playing cards.

He is survived by a son, Donald W. Smith and his wife Jane; two grandchildren, Chasity Lynn Moore and her husband Brian and Coty Joel William Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Smith and Jett Moore all of Quincy; a brother Harold (Jeanne) Smith; a brother-in-law Richard Stickler; a sister-in-law Chris Smith and several nieces and nephews also survived.

In addition to his wife, Wanda, and his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Larry and David Smith and William Smith in infancy, and a sister Evelyn Stickler.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to: Blessing Foundation for Hospice, Quincy Autism Support Group or the American Cancer Society.
