Donald L. Bockenfeld

Donald “Don” L. Bockenfeld, age 81, of Good Samaritan Home, formerly of Lake Havasu City, AZ, died on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at 11:58 a.m. in the home with his loving family members present. He was born on December 28, 1934 in Quincy, a son of Joseph A. and Vera Mae (Ravenscraft) Bockenfeld. He married Patricia Ohnemus on November 8, 1952. Later he married Genevieve Willing Bourdeau on December 4, 1966. She preceded him in death.

Don began his career at Quincy Welding and Chambers Equipment where he learned to master his trade as a mechanic. Chambers sponsored him in outboard boat racing and supported his love for competition and racing. He competed locally as well as traveling to many areas winning numerous championships including placing in The World Championship in Oklahoma in 1958. He worked at Gardner Denver as a Foreman. He and his wife left Quincy in 1980 to reside in Lake Havasu City, Az. where he was a mechanic for London Bridge Golf Course.

Don loved competing in all sports especially bowling, trap shooting and golf. He enjoyed hunting all game and fishing. While in Arizona he loved fishing for stripers with his buddies on the lake. Don loved his kids, grandkids and he was especially proud of not just being a grandpa but a “Great” grandpa.

He was of the Catholic faith and attended St Francis Solanus Church and St. Anthony Church.

Survivors include three sons, Jim (Mary) Bockenfeld, Jeff (Malinda) Bockenfeld, all of Quincy and Rod (Susan) Bockenfeld of Watkins, CO.; one daughter, Donnette (Rick) Cannady of Quincy; two step children, formerly Shari Bourdeau and Robin Bourdeau and their children; ten grandchildren, Jamie (Jason) Parrott, Katie (Josh) Ayres, Matthew Bockenfeld, Kelly Bockenfeld, Paul (Nermina) Strickland, Joe Bockenfeld, Jake (Kaylan) Bockenfeld, Erika (Aaron) Rusher, Ryan (Amy) Cannady and Amanda (Greg) Anderson; eight great grandchildren, Hudson Ayres, Brady Bockenfeld, Nolan Bockenfeld, David Jasim Strickland, Holley Bockenfeld, Gabriella Davis, Cameron Cannady and Sloan Cannady; three half brothers, Bill (Diana) Bockenfeld, Terry (Monika) Bockenfeld and Greg (Penny) Bockenfeld, all of Quincy; two half sisters, Sharon (Donnie) Wellman and Becky McLean, all of Quincy; Nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Wilma Bockenfeld, a brother Joseph J. “Joe Boy” Bockenfeld, a sister Irene “Sonny” Thornton, a grandson David Strickland.

SERVICES: Cremation rites have been accorded per his wishes. Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 12:00 noon in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church with burial in St. Boniface Cemetery. Visitation will be on April 15, 2016 beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at St. Francis Church.
