Donald Joseph Fessler

Donald Joseph Fessler, 92, of Sunset Home, formerly of Liberty, died on Saturday, February 25, 2023. Don was born on July 12, 1930 in Quincy, IL, the son of Louis (Louie) and Alta (Starman) Fessler. He married the love of his life, Lois Jean Akers on February 3, 1951, in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Lois still survives and lives at Sunset Home.

Don was a 1948 graduate of Liberty High School. Don and Lois both loved attending all the sporting events of their children and grandchildren. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Fan.

Don was a farmer for most of his life; he also was a Liberty School Bus Driver for the Liberty School District. All the kids loved having him as their bus driver. Don was a very gentle, compassionate, and easy-going person with a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Michael (Thersea) Fessler, Kenny (Sumaya) Fessler, Danny (Pam) Fessler and a daughter, Ann (Richard) Johnston.
Grandchildren: Sara (Bill) Reichert, Curt (Julie) Fessler, Joe (Robin) Fessler, Angie Hultz, Andrea (Ben Huff) Fessler, Danielle (Nate) Fessler, B.J. Fessler, Paul (Amanda) Fessler, Brooke (Patrick) Cook, Ashley (Adam) Coventry, Brandy Johnston, Shawn (Amber) Johnston.
Great grandchildren: Hope, Evan, Kayleigh, Tori, Anabelle, Ollivia, Josie, Morgan, Landon, Riley, Easton, Noelan, Whitney (Luke), Gavin, Aubrey, Jack, Charlie, Asher, Bode, Abbey, Emma, Kenzie, Lane, Maggie, Greyson, Preston and River.
One brother, Glenn (Sabina) Fessler of Fowler and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Alta Fessler; a brother Dale Fessler, and a great grandson, Michael Fessler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. with a prayer at 11:00 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Liberty School Booster Club.

    Miss you so much Dad but I know you are in a better place. I couldn’t have ask for a better Dad because you were always the best. I will always cherish the memories we had. Rest in peace Dad. Love you, Ann.
