Donald Frank Adolfs

Donald Frank Adolfs, age 86, of Quincy, died on Thursday, December 23, 2021 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on July 6, 1935 in Quincy, Illinois the son of John & Lois (Greene) Adolfs. He married Frances Giesing on January 7, 1956 at St. Francis Catholic Church and celebrated 65 years of marriage . She survives.

Don worked at the Electric Wheel, retiring after 28 years of service. He then later worked for the City of Quincy as a Risk Manager, retiring after 9 years.

Don was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #583, serving as financial secretary for 32 years, deputy Grand Knight in 2008, was also a Trustee for several years and manager of the K of C driving range in recent years. He was also a member of the Mart Heinen Club, the Elks, the QND Booster Club, was a volunteer at Blessing Hospital, Meals on Wheels and RSVP Program. Don was also a Quincy Park District Commissioner for 8 years.

Don also enjoyed bowling, golf and played softball for many years. He was also an avid Cardinal Baseball fan.

In addition to his wife, Don is also survived by:
TWO CHILDREN: Tony Adolfs (Daphne Werner) of Plainfield, IL and Amy Herman (Randy) of Quincy.
SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN: Tyler Adolfs (Rachel Kulhanek), Alexis Adolfs, Madison Adolfs and Lukas Adolfs, Peyton Herman, Kendall Herman and Jordan Herman.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Mary Lou Neisen along with her husband Orville, and a brother: Jack Adolfs.

Funeral services will be held held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 1:00 PM in St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at St. Peter Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to Quincy Notre Dame High School, St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital and Knights of Columbus TV Mass for Shut-ins.

    Sorry to hear of Don’s passing. We were neighbors and boyhood friends and classmates at the old St. Peter School at 1th and State.
    Many a fond memory of good times spent together.
