Donald Edward Topf

Donald Edward Topf, age 80, of 3821 Harbor Lane, Quincy, IL died on Sunday, October 21, 2012 in his home. He was born on November 27, 1931 in Salix, Iowa the son of Nicholas W. & Lucy (Lenz) Topf. He married Elizabeth Ann Bergsmith on February 6, 1954 in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City, Iowa. She survives.

Mr. Topf was a graduate of Iowa State University. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean war. Mr. Topf was a National Sales Manager for American Cyanamid Company and served the company from July of 1960 until his retirement in 1991.

Mr. Topf was a member of the Church of St. Peter. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elk’s Lodge, and the Quincy Country Club. Don also greatly enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting and fishing.

FIVE DAUGHTERS: Elizabeth Hilbert of Hamlin, NY; Suzanne Fitzpatrick and her husband Mike of Ankeny, IA; Sharon Von Hagen and her husband Mike of Ankeny, IA; Donna McCulloch and her husband David of Quincy and Christine Topf of Chicago, IL.
FIFTEEN GRANDCHILDREN: Jason Hilbert, Travis Hilbert and his wife Caitlin; Danielle Hilbert, Jennifer Maach and her husband David, Dave Fitzpatrick and his wife Brianna; Dan Fitzpatrick and his wife Katy; Jamie Soetmelk and her husband Shawn; Pat Fitzpatrick and his wife Alyssa; Sara Jablonski and her husband Jared; Angela Billington; Scott Von Hagen and his wife Liz, Brooklyn McCulloch, Andrew McCulloch; Jennifer Conover and her husband Eric, and Natalie McCulloch.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Trypp, Tenley, Zoie, Caden, Taylor, Austin, Breckyn, Brendan, Dylan, Avery, Eric, Quentin and Cole.
BROTHERS: Nicholas Topf and his wife Ann of Carroll, IA; Dennis Topf and his wife Cathy of Windsor, CO: David Topf of Richmond, VA
SISTER: Patricia Hanssen and her husband Lee of Lee’s Summit, MO.
TWO SISTER-IN-LAWS: Eileen Topf and Linda Topf.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Lawrence Topf, Maurice Topf, and Bernard and James Topf both in childhood and a sister Mary Trudeau.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 9:30 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 at the Church of St. Peter. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or to the Quincy Notre Dame Foundation.

    I am so saddened to hear of your loss. Don was a GREAT man. I remember when you first moved to Quincy, how supportive he was in trying to allow your family to adjust to a new community. I will keep your family in my prayers. God Bless.

    I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I could be there. Uncle Don always was a very positive influence in our life’s. I cherish the memories of our family get togethers growing up. Aunt Liz and Uncle Don were a very big comfort to us when we lost our parents. Love you all. Our prayers and blessings are with all of you.
