Donald E. Smith, age 65, of 700 Jefferson, died on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 in his home. He was born on September 2, 1944 in Mattoon, IL the son of Walter Matthew & Mary Evelyn (Dawson) Smith. Mr. Smith was retired from the United States Army after serving from 1963 until 1983 and had participated in the Vietnam War. He was of the Catholic Faith.

He is survived by:
TWO SISTERS: Sharon Darlene Raleigh and her husband William, Jr. and Carlene Evelyn Smith and her boyfriend Donald Earl Riley.
NIECES AND NEPHEWS: Troy Lee Smith, Travis Bryan Smith, Tony Alan Buss, Chad Edan Buss, Steve Allen Raleigh, Jessica Marie Loza, Melissa Sue Anne Smith, Karly Amanda Smith, Stephanie Diane Raleigh
GREAT-NIECES AND NEPHEWS: Rachel Buss, Katelyne Marie Anne Smith-Fielding and Zion Dixon.
A CLOSE FRIEND: Kenneth Griggs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in law: Byron Dale Smith, a niece Christina Marie Smith and a nephew Tracy Allen Smith.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 9, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home with military rites conducted at the cemetery. There is no visitation but friends are invited to the graveside services. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
