Donald A. Steinbrecher

Donald A. Steinbrecher, Sr., age 81, of 733 North 14th, died on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 in the Good Samaritan Home. He was born on March 18, 1931 in Quincy, the son of Carl & Ruth (Steinkamp) Steinbrecher. He married Mary Burwinkel on August 11, 1956 in St. Francis Catholic Church. She survives.

Don was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. He worked for Moorman Manufacturing for a number of years. Previous to this, he worked as a meatcutter at Pfiefer’s and Johannes. Don was an active and devoted member of St. Francis Catholic Church for 56 years. After his retirement he helped out with ‘Austin’s Army’ at the church. Don was an outdoorsman, enjoying camping, fishing and hunting. He was an avid CUBS fan. In earlier years he was very active in the Boy Scouts. He was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. Don also served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by:
FOUR CHILDREN: Margaret Steinbrecher of Quincy; Donnie Steinbrecher and his wife Laurie of Quincy; Debbie Steinbrecher of Plainville and Carol Steinbrecher also of Plainville.
SIX GRANDCHILDREN; Jennifer Darrow; Anna Keithley; Melissa Allen and her husband Jeremiah; William Steinbrecher; Katie Medley and Kari Ann Steinbrecher.
SEVEN GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Elizabeth, Lance, Priscilla, Hannah, Henry, Bailey and Alton.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, 2 children: David Steinbrecher and Mary Frances Steinbrecher, one grandson Rob Steinbrecher and one sister: Evelyn Caspermeyer.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:30 in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 with a Parish Prayer service at 6:00 and a Knights of Columbus service to follow. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Building Fund, the Blessing Foundation for Hospice, or to the Good Samaritan Home.
