Dennis K. Carter

Dennis K. Carter, age 65, of Liberty, IL, formerly of Keokuk, IA, died on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 in the Emergency Room of Blessing Hospital. He was born on January 23, 1947 in Watseka, IL the son of Merle and Mable (McClung) Carter. Dennis was a graduate of the Watseka High School. Dennis first married Sharon Lee Ping in 1968. She preceded him in death in 2003. Dennis later married Lisa LaVelle Slough on April 17, 2010 in Ursa, IL. She survives.

Dennis was a retired United States Coast Guard Senior Chief. He served from January of 1966 until February of 1992. After his retirement from the Coast Guard, Dennis worked for McNay Trucking for more than 10 years.

Dennis was a member of the United States Coast Guard Retired Chiefs Association. He loved history and travel. His greatest joy was his family.

In addition to his wife Lisa, he is also survived by:
HIS MOTHER: Mable Carter of Cornelius, OR;
HIS SON: Chris Carter and his wife Elizabeth of Vancouver Island, British Columbia;
TWO GRANDCHILDREN: Colton and Westin Carter
THREE STEP-SONS: Damien Buckley, Jordan Buckley and his fiance’ Abby Forshey, and Nathan Dulaney.
A BROTHER: Kevin Carter of Cornelius, OR
TWO SISTERS: Myrna Cooper and her husband Sam of Cedarhill, TX, and Laurel Clifton of Cornelius, OR.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his first wife, Sharon, Dennis was also preceded in death by his father Merle Carter.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 10:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment with military honors at the Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Quincy Humane Society or to the North Adams Nursing Home.

    Dennis was so kind, I used to wait on him at JMHuber when he went to Lenexa KS on his runs. I am so sorry to hear about this, I hope you can find peace at this time, it is such a shame that so nice of a person is not with us anymore.
