Delbert D. McMullen
Delbert D. McMullen, age 77, of Big Neck, IL, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 in Quincy. Delbert was born on February 28, 1945 in Quincy, IL. He was raised in the Lutheran Faith at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coatsburg, Illinois. He went to Loraine Elementary Grade School and Unity High School in Mendon, IL. He quit high school and enlisted in the Navy. Delbert married Rosa, his wife of 52 years, in 1967. She preceded him in death in 2019.
Delbert worked at several factories in Quincy. Then he worked for T.C. Taylor, tearing up railroad tracks and ties. Next, he worked at Electric Wheel which later became Titan, retiring from there. He worked for Duane Cramm and several farmers for years. Then worked part time for Camp Point Tire. He later worked at a temp service doing different jobs.
Delbert loved gardening for the community, family, and friends. He loved to tease everybody, and he loved everybody. He also loved dancing. He loved tractor pulling with family. He was the hardest working man that his sons ever knew.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 3:00 PM in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coatsburg, Illinois. Visitation will be held at the Church on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of the services at 3:00. Memorials may be made to the family to help with expenses.
So sorry to hear of Delbert’s passing. For me ( Lisa Cramm Moore) he just seemed to be a part of our family as a little girl. I remember having a little girl crush on him, and yes he was a very hard worker someone Dad (Duane Cramm) could always count on. Will be keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers.
I met Delbert at Amcon Distributing while he worked at the temp service. He was my lumper, he learned very quickly and I could always count on Delbert to get the job done in a timely manner. He gave us all a hard time, teasing each one of us and his laugh was contagious. While working one early morning unloading a trailer full of cups and lids I had just left the trailer with a pallet of cups and when I came back in the trailer I could see Delbert covered in blood! I was like what the heck happened to you and he said a box came down and hit him in the glasses causing a small cut on his face but the blood was like he fought mike Tyson for a few minutes. You know what, he kept working until the job was finished and then he cleaned himself up. I loved talking to him about his garden getting myself ideas on how to raise a good garden like him.
I am sending my prayers to Delberts family during this difficult time, he surely was a one of a kind man.
So sorry for the loss of your grandpa. I am here for you girls no matter what you need. I love you Sarah, Erin & Samantha.
I’m sorry for the loss of you Father Duane. You and your girls are in my thoughts and prayers.
So sorry for you lost! We know you will be lost without him.
