Deacon William Kent Neuser

Deacon William Kent Neuser, age 66, of Quincy, died on Sunday, June 29, 2014 in Shawano Community Hospital. He was born on May 7, 1948 in Quincy, the son of Paul and Inez (Keil) Neuser. He married Kathleen Lavery on June 30, 1979 in Quincy. Kathleen is the youngest of Joe and Anita Lavery’s seven children, and she survives.

Deacon Bill was ordained a Catholic Deacon on June 24, 2007. He retired in 2007 from Federal Express after working 22 years with the company. Prior to that, Bill had also served as Sergeant with the Neillsville, WI Police Department.

He attended elementary school at St. Francis, graduated from Christian Brothers in 1966 and completed the religious diaconate training through the Springfield diocese. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army from 1969-1975.

He was a devout Catholic, having attended St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in his younger years, and he was currently a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.

Deacon Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and he had participated in the Adoration Chapel, Cursillo, and Residents Encounter Christ. He served as Eucharistic Minister at Blessing Hospital for many years.

Deacon Bill treasured his family and being a Deacon. He was a voracious reader, who also liked to garden, fish and go hunting.

In addition to his wife, Bill is also survived by: his mother, Inez Neuser of Quincy; four children, Luke Neuser of Quincy, Gina (Patrick) Holt of St. Louis, MO, Laura (Joseph) Zanger of Liberty and Jesse (Caitlin) Neuser of Barry; five grandchildren: Eva Marie Hope, Abram Joseph, Elizabeth Grace and Paul Michael Zanger, and Gabriel Austin Neuser. One sister, Mary Ruth (Ed) Calcaterra, of St. Louis, Mo and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul and one brother Bob.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Honors Detail. Visitation will be held on Friday afternoon from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, there will be a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to The Neuser Family for Bill’s Medical Expenses.
Duker & Haugh Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.

    Requiescant in pace, from many members of Historic St. Rose of Lima Parish. I last met Deacon Neuser at St. Pat’s dinner there. He was from a good family I knew from years ago, Paul.
