David and I met in Junior high school and he was my first crush and kiss. We lost touch and I haven’t seen him in 25 or more years. He was so sweet and sensitive. We had some long phone conversations, hours and hours. I am so sorry for his family and friends. He was a jewel and unforgettable.

Just found out. I knew David from Washington Elementary. I have not seen David in over 30 years. I have no words that can ease the pain that his family must be feeling. Just know that David is remembered even by those of us who are far away.

David was my best friend throughout elementary school. My fondest memories are of David and me playing Hot Wheels behind his home, having sleep overs and exploring the creeks down the road from his grandparents’ farm. The days seemed to never end. We would begin playing late morning until his mom (Christina) called us for lunch. Following lunch we would binge play until his father (Kent) would get home from work. Kent would often wrestle with us. David and I could never get over how strong Kent was and often wondered out loud if we would ever possess such strength. It was hard to imagine growing up then. We lived in the moment we were in. It was the best of times.

As David and I grew older the world eventually pulled us away from one another. However, not many days go by where I don’t imagine myself back in David’s back yard playing Hot Wheels under the tree where his sandbox was located on a warm summer day. Not a care in world. Not a place I’d rather be. I will hold and cherish these memories.

To Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, I am so sorry for your loss.

    Love,

    Santee Nixon
