David Joseph Genenbacher

David Joseph Genenbacher, 61, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loved ones. Dave was born December 23, 1961. The son of Clarence and Evelyn (Kaltenbach) Genenbacher, he graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School, class of 1980, and served as student council president. He went on to receive a Business Degree from Quincy College in 1984. He married his high school sweetheart Caroline “Carrie” Frericks on January 8, 1983. She survives.

Dave was a longtime member of St. Dominic/St. Anthony parish. He devoted his life to God and taking care of his family. You could always find Dave cruising the sidelines of his children’s sporting events or playing pick-up games with the neighborhood kids in the backyard. He enjoyed being outdoors, keeping his yard mowed, and washing any vehicle that pulled into the driveway. Dave lived for the “annual” summer high school reunion, catching up with all his QND buddies and watching their families grow over the years. He formed unending friendships during his time at QND, and was a loyal friend.

Dave never called anyone by their given name, and was known to give everyone their own individual nickname. His deep voice, firm handshake, and dry sense of humor could sometimes leave you wondering if he was really happy to meet you, but you never walked away without a smile or laugh. He is survived by his wife Carrie and his four children: Catelyn (Clint) Frese of Augusta IL, Cale (Diana) Genenbacher of Huntsville UT, Grey Genenbacher (Katie Parvin) of Denver CO, and Mariah Genenbacher of Quincy, his three siblings Gary (Kim) Genenbacher of Decatur IL, Debbie (Michael) Smith, and Kevin Genenbacher, both of Quincy. His parents Clarence and Evelyn Genenbacher preceded him in death.

Dave will be remembered for always giving freely of himself, and expecting nothing in return.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 9:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:30 in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to QND Foundation, Catholic Charities, and the Diabetes Research Foundation.

What a wonderful person. He was a pleasure to work with early in our careers. Already missing that big wave as I drove by his house on the way home.
