Darrell “D.J.” E. Kelley, Jr.

Darrell “D.J.” E. Kelley, Jr., age 18, of Quincy, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 26, 2019. D.J. was born on October 3, 2000 in Detroit, MI the son of Darrell Eugene Kelley and India T. Applewhite.

D.J. had played on the Blue Devils football team. He attended Teen Reach, enjoyed gaming, listening to music, scary movies, wearing hoodies, playing basketball and he loved animals. D.J. also loved being a big brother to his siblings.

D.J. is survived by his parents, India Applewhite of MI and Darrell and Lindsey Kelley of Qunicy; his paternal grandmother: Sheila Renea Thomas of Quincy; his maternal grandparents: Charles Applewhite, Sr. and Dorcas Applewhite, of MI; siblings: Danay Kelley of MI; Quantel Kelley; Nasier Kelley; Donovan King; Sophia King and Ella Mae Kelley all of Quincy; aunts and uncles: James Mann; Charles (Tomeka) Applewhite; Isiah Thomas; Laticia Avery; Sheila Thomas; and Brianny Thomas. Many cousins and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather: James Mann, Sr. and uncle: Delano Applewhite.

Everyone is asked to wear D.J.’s favorite color, orange.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.

    We thank God for the gift of life he gave Darrell, a gift which touched so many others. May his family and friends be comforted with a lifetime of warm memories of this fine young man.

    Darrell and Lindsey and family, uncle jeff and uncle johnny are so sadden with the loss of our D.J. he will be missed so much at all of our family gatherings and in our hearts ALWAYS. this is a very rough and trouble time for us all and especially you all. We will get through this very rocky and rough road together as we are family and we all loved D.J. our prayers and thoughts are with you now and always. Love Uncle jeff and johnny

    My heart and prayers goes out to his family and friends, l met Darrell like 4 or 5 years ago when he came to my house with my daughter’s date to homecoming that year. He was such a nice young man. Prayers being sent. RIP Darrell
