Darlene J. Bigger

Darlene J. Bigger, age 91, of Quincy, died Monday, December 12, 2022 at her home.

She was born January 31, 1931 in Quincy, the daughter of Paul and Elsie Crim Brown. She married Rubin Bigger on November 15, 1968 and he preceded her in death on July 9, 2008.

She is survived by her children, Criss Brown, Kringle (Steve) Lindsey and Frances “Franny” Cookson, all of Quincy and Mike (Debbie) Bigger of Wyoming, IL; grandchildren, Scott Brown of Seattle, WA, Candy Puff of Albuquerque, NM, Dusty (Monica) Cookson of Dodge City, KS, Luke (Maggie) Cookson of Ashland, Quentin, Austin and Dawson Cookson, all of Quincy, Dustin and Katelyn Bigger, both of Wyoming, IL; five great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Paulette Rumble; granddaughter, Cristy Puff; four brothers, Parker, Dale, Jack and Gerald Brown; one sister, Pauline Phillips; and son-in-law, Tom Cookson.

Ms. Bigger was a 1948 graduate of Liberty High School and was employed for several years as a drug and alcohol counselor at St. Mary’s Hospital in Quincy, then retired from the Wells Center in Jacksonville. Darlene enjoyed bowling, crocheting, camping, crossword puzzles, and watching birds and squirrels out of her window. She was very family oriented and loved to host and attend family gatherings.

A funeral service will be held 2 PM Friday, December 16, 2022 at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home with burial at Shiloh Cemetery, near Plainville. Family will meet friends from 1 PM until time of services at the funeral home on Friday. Memorials are suggested to Illinois Veteran’s Home Christmas Gift Program, Blessing Hospice or Toys for Tots.     So sorry to hear of Darlenes passing. Fond memories from my childhood at her home. She was a very nice family friend to my mother Sherla and I.
