Danny Rue Seals
Danny Rue Seals, age 87, of Camp Point, died peacefully on Thursday, May 3, 2018 in Good Samaritan Home. He was born in rural Lima, IL on April 13,1931 a son of Orville R. and Mary A. (Andrew) Seals. On May 12, 1954 he married Pauline T. Dietrich in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, and she survives.
Danny was a fabricator for Moorman Manufacturing in the Livestock Equipment Division. He was a lifelong farmer, first in the Meyer Bottoms and since 1961, on his farm near Camp Point. He was a graduate of Mendon High School.
Danny served his country in the U.S. Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War.
He was a faithful member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camp Point. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree, the Farm Bureau, and he had served as a Trustee on the Columbus Township Board. He had also participated in Cursillo.
Danny was passionate about farming. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He gave the best hugs. He made everyone he came in contact with feel special and no one was a stranger to him for very long. Danny truly loved people and fellowship.
He had a way of making life better for everyone, and he was a role-model for many.
In addition to his wife Pauline, survivors also include his children: Mary Jean “Jeannie” (Ron) Gray of Columbia, TN; Carol S. (Mark) Heidbreder of Decatur, IL; June A. (Bruce) Shipp of Poplar Grove, IL; James “Jim” R. (Jennifer) Seals of Quincy; his brother, Ray (Peggy) Seals of Broken Arrow, OK; a sister Lois Hemming of Loraine, IL.
Nine grandchildren: Dyana Gray; Danielle Gray; Erica (Jason) Harris; Zachary Shipp; Alexander Shipp and his fiancée Sierra Murphy; Heather (Rick) Risenhoover; Andrew (Liz) Seals; Courtney (Caleb) Janssen and Kelsey Strother and her fiancé Brennan Koetters.
Great-Grandchildren, Ada and Zachary Harris; Adrianna Cortese; Winston Risenhoover, and Harper Seals.
Brothers and sisters-in-law: Rosella Hummel; Nick (Carlene) Dietrich; Herb (Joyce) Dietrich and Melvin (Connie) Dietrich. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Paul (Kate) Seals; a sister, Betty (Albert) Nelson; a sister-in-law Patricia (Vernon) Kaltenbach. Brothers-in-law Don Heming and Bob Hummel; and a great-granddaughter, Kylee Sue Seals in infancy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camp Point, by Rev. Stephen Thompson. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 3:00 -7:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camp Point. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Thomas Catholic Church or to Catholic Heart Work Camp.

I worked with Danny at Moorman’s LED and a nicer guy you couldn’t meet… Sympathies to his family.

Pauline is my cousin. My mom, Cecilia Dietrich was aunt to Pauline and Rue. Rue was one of the finest men I have ever met. Mr Good Citizen, who was always there for his family, his Church and his community. We cousins so enjoyed Rue at family reunions, and he was always ready for a visit after church at Camp Point. Pauline, your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
What a good man. I remember how much he loved to dance and his willingness to help anyone. He always had a joyful spirit and you could tell how much he loved his wife – they had the real deal marriage. Rest In Peace.

Rue was a close family friend, especially to Mom and Dad. I never heard a cross word come from him in all the years I knew him. I remember late one evening, I was coming in from a service call during harvest and stopped at a gas station in West Quincy to get a snack. and saw Rue there at the gas pump filling up his old grain truck. It was one of those drought years where everyone’s corn yields were really bad and in talking to him for a few moments, the thing that struck me was that amidst of a general bitterness of that year’s crop failures, He remained upbeat and remarked about how fortunate he felt to have a crop to harvest. I will never forget that. My condolences to Pauline, Jim and the family. Another great man gone home. I imagine that Rue and Dad are kicked back laughing and telling stories right now, Rest in everlasting peace Rue.
Carol and family, so sorry for your loss. Please know that all of you are in our thoughts and prayers. Hold onto those wonderful memories of your Dad and Grandfather to help you through the coming days and weeks.
