Danny J. “Dan” Hugenberg
Danny J.”Dan” Hugenberg age 53, died on his farm near Liberty on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 2:59 a.m. as a result of a farm related accident. Dan was born June 23, 1960 in Quincy a son of Robert J “Bob” and Theresa “Rosie” (O’Brien) Hugenberg. He married Rose Ann Grawe on August 2, 1986 in Quincy’s St. Anthony Catholic Church and she survives.
Dan was a self-employed livestock and grain farmer. He was a 1978 graduate of Liberty High School. He sold real estates for century 21 with Leo Zanger for a short time.
Dan was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was a lector and served on the cemetery board.
He was an active member of the Adams F.S. Board, the Farm Bureau Board and he served as Trustee on the Burton Township Board. Dan was hard working, and he truly loved life on the farm. He would seldom take a vacation or trip purely for pleasure. This fact made Dan and Rose Ann’s trip to Hawaii for their 25th Wedding Anniversary a very special occasion. Dan was straight-forward, saying what he thought. Dan was very outgoing; never did he meet a stranger. He was a deliberate thinker and made decisions thoughtfully and with great care. He was an avid hunter and always looked forward to the annual dove hunts and waterfowl seasons. He was a dedicated Liberty Eagles fan always accompanied by his daughter, Katie.
In addition to his wife Rose Ann; survivors also include his son, Ben Hugenberg both of the home;
Dan’s brothers and sisters, Debbie O’Malley and her husband Joe of Omaha, NE, Jim Hugenberg of Quincy, IL, Ron Hugenberg of Quincy, IL, John Hugenberg and his wife Lisa of Springfield, MO, Carl Hugenberg of Quincy, IL, Roger Hugenberg and his wife Kim of Canton, MO, Dennis Hugenberg of Payson, IL and Rich Hugenberg and his fiancee Kara Scott of Clayton, IL. His mother-in-law is Mary Ann Grawe. His brothers and sisters-in-law, Lucille Grawe and Margie Grawe; Ken Grawe and his wife Geri; Tom Grawe; JoAnn Witte and her husband Fred; Dorothy Haley and her husband Bob all of Quincy; Rita Frericks; Joe Grawe and his wife Gail all of Liberty; Roger Grawe and his wife Pat of Eau Claire, WI; and Mary Howald of Center, MO. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews also survive.
Dan was preceded in death this past year by his parents, Bob, in January, and Rosie, in August, and his daughter Katie who died this past July 20th. Also preceding him in death are his father-in-law Gene Grawe, his nephew, Robert Alan Hugenberg and two nieces, Jacqueline and Adrianne Rose Grawe. A sister in law Lynda Grawe and brother in law Paul Frericks.
A special thanks to the multiple emergency crews, friends, family and neighbors who assisted in the search process.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends are invited and may call at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family respectfully requests memorial contributions be given in Dan’s memory to the Adams County Farm Bureau Foundation or to the Liberty Education Foundation.
