Daniel W. Otte

Daniel W. Otte, age 53, of 1418 Curtis Creek Road, Quincy, died in his home at 7:11 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012 after a courageous 13-month battle with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. He was born on October 31, 1958 in Quincy, a son of Charles & Elizabeth (Fisk) Otte. On November 28, 1980 he married his beloved wife, Patricia Holman.

Dan was a graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School, Quincy University, and received his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois, Champaign. He was employed as a supervisor with the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services.

He was a member of the Church of St. Peter.

Dan was an avid sports fan, especially of the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed watching sports, collecting trading cards/sports memorabilia, listening to good music, and watching a variety of movies. He was a big fan of comedy, often quoting his favorite comedians, such as Rodney Dangerfield.

Dan touched the lives of many people with his big heart and caring demeanor. His good-natured attitude, concern for others, ability to make everyone feel comfortable and sense of humor never faded. These characteristics will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Dan followed the life advice he always gave to others: Be yourself, be genuine, follow your instincts, and have many laughs along the way. Having these characteristics assisted Dan in being successful in both his professional and personal life. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends throughout his life and during his fight with cancer. Throughout his struggles Dan took everything in stride. He never complained and consistently put the needs of others before his own.

In addition to his wife, Patricia, he is survived by his mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Otte of Quincy; three children: Kyle Otte (Melina) of Chicago, IL; Kelly Otte – Diaz (Ruben) of Quincy, and Kelsey Otte of Quincy; three siblings: Jean Seward (Rudy) of Denton, TX; Mary Jo Duesterhaus (Stan) of Rochester, IL, and Charles “Chuck” Otte, Jr. (June) of Quincy.

Uncle Dan was one of those people that you meet once in a lifetime. He was a man who could make you smile no matter how bad of a day you were having. He had the best humor of anyone I have encountered. He could light up a room with his smile, and warm your heart with love. Even through his courageous battle with cancer, he still had the same humor and never had a bleak or misanthropic attitude about his battle with cancer. He would even joke or poke fun at his ailment, that was just the kind of person he was. Which shows true character. He was truly a man that comes once in a lifetime.

Deep thoughts with Pat, Kyle, Kelly and Kelsey

    I love you Uncle Dan,

    Jared

He’ll be missed, he was a good friend and made me laugh a lot when we were in high school.
