Daniel O’Brien McCartney

Daniel O’Brien McCartney, age 89, died on Saturday, March 19, 2022, in the Blessing Emergency Room. Dan was born on June 26, 1932, in Pike County, Illinois to Frank and Isabel (McGreevy) McCartney. He married Phylliss (Turner) Melton in St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She survives.

Dan was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later in the National Guard. After completing his military service, Dan went to work as a hog farmer and later as an agricultural consultant. He was very passionate about his work and cherished the business connections and friends that he made throughout his career. Dan enjoyed traveling throughout the Tri State area and watching sports, especially his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals.

In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by his stepson, Michael Melton (Stacy); his four step grandchildren, Bailey Jacobson (Kel), Regan Melton, McKenna Melton and Shelby Goodman; and one great step grandchild, Gray Jacobson.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, numerous brothers and sisters and his step grandson, Martin Melton.

Cremation has been accorded to Dan. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at 10:30 AM in Calvary Cemetery in Pittsfield, Illinois. There is no visitation, but friends and family are invited to attend the graveside. The Duker and Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
