Daniel Michael Andrews

Daniel Michael Andrews, age 95, of 2436 Cherry St., Quincy, died on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 6:38 p.m. in Blessing Hospital. He was born on January 8, 1919 in Philadelphia, PA, a son of Daniel M. & Catherine (Kilroy) Andrews. He married Margaret Alice Morris on April 9, 1945 in St. Francis Catholic Church. She survives.

Dan served as a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He began working for Moorman Mfg. in 1951 in the Graphic Arts department and retired in 1982.

A devout Catholic, he was an active member of St. Francis Catholic Church where he had served as a lector and a Eucharistic minister. Dan made his profession into the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi in 1963. He participated in Cursillo, the Adoration Chapel and Knights of Columbus.

Dan volunteered at Blessing Hospital and Sunset Home. He lovingly supported each and every one of his wife and children’s activities. He also was a life-long member of the Quincy Area Bowling Association and a main-stay of the Casino Bowling Community. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his wife, Marg, he is survived by his children, Patrick Andrews (Rehana Hamid) of Philadelphia, PA, Maureen O’Brien (James) of Hayesville, NC and Karen Andrews Myers (Jim Myers) of St. Louis, MO; brother Francis Andrews of Phoenixville, PA, sister Mary Ann Finkbiner (Richard) of Lancaster, PA; five grandchildren, Morgan FitzPatrick Andrews, Sami Andrews, Marcus O’Brien (Kristina), Jamie Wisda (Brian), Kelly Myers (Jerod Schnabel); Four great-grandchildren, Gaby, Mia, Ryan and Sean; a brother-in-law James Morris (Sue)of Springfield, IL; and sisters-in-law: Rosemary Gott (Tom); Dorothy Morris and Charlene Morris all of Quincy and Sherry Morris of Lombard, IL along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Catherine Daniels; a brother George Andrews and three brothers-in-law, Earl, Paul and Robert Morris.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church officiated by Fr. Tom Shaughnessy, O.F.M. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a Franciscan Wake Service at 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Third Order of Secular Franciscans and the Ability Institute (for disability education).

    Altho I left Quincy in 1965, I still have wonderful memories of the entire family across the street. May all of you experiance the healing that will come in time.
