Daniel A. ‘Dan’ Frericks
Daniel Allen “Dan” Frericks, age 72, of Quincy, died on Thursday January 6, 2022, in Blessing Hospital. He was born on September 12, 1949, in Quincy the son of Alfred “Brown” and Jean Bringaze Frericks.
Dan was a graduate of Christian Brothers High School. He then went to DuPage College of Horticulture. He worked for Ball Seed Company in West Chicago where he worked for James McGregory, and met and married James’s daughter Vera McGregory on October 19, 1969. She survives. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.
Dan grew up around the garden center his whole life and in 1970 Dan joins the family business and in 1984 he and brother Kevin buy the company. In 1987 they buy the retail store, and the company is run under Frericks Gardens, Inc. In 1999 Dan’s son Nate comes on board to extend the company to a fifth generation.
After working 24/7 during the spring season, Dan enjoyed his yearly horse-riding trail trips to Colorado with his M-7 buddies and Silom Springs with the Quincy Ridge Riders partners in crime. Dan was in seventh heaven taking care of and riding his horses, Cody and Copper.
During the 1970’s Dan was in the United States Army Reserves as a drill instructor training troops. His rank was Staff Sargent 1st Class E7. He was immensely proud of his military service having served in Washington state and Fort Leonard Wood.
In addition to his wife, Vera, Dan is also survived by:
Three children: Jennifer Willing (Tim), Nate Frericks (Becky) and Brock Frericks all of Quincy.
Grandchildren: Raiven Willing (Tony Bartolomucci), Hannah Willing (Chas Griffin), Drake Willing (Lauren Post), Layne Frericks, Beckham Frericks, Blakely Frericks, Addie Schuster, Gracie Schuster, Ashtyn Smith, Hayes Frericks and Lincoln Frericks.
Great Grandchildren: Augie and Ozzy
Siblings: Julie Arment (Dave), Kevin Frericks (Joyce), Jay Frericks (Carol), Jeanine Moss, and Carrie Genenbacher (Dave).
In-laws: Mary Edwards, Patty Ruiz (Jesse), Tom McGregory (Eddie), and Tim McGregory (Barb).
Dan is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Jim McGregory.
The Frericks family would like to thank the ICU staff at Blessing Hospital for all their wonderful care given to Dan.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 10:00 in St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022, from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Peter School or Quincy Notre Dame High School or Catholic Charities.
My thoughts and prayers are for Dan and all the family. I enjoyed so many years working with Dan, as Frericks Gardens supplied us with flowers. Growing up in Quincy and being able to have this connection was a pleasure.

My Condolences to the Frericks’ family with the passing of Danny. I recall Danny from my days with the Schulte boys. More importantly, I know how much Danny and your family have looked after my Mom over the years. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I had the pleasure of working for Dan back in the early 80’s & again in 2018’ish for another couple years. I have always admired this man for his knowledge & business sense. My heart aches for this family that I have come to know & love. Vera, Jennifer, Nate, Brock and all who loved him I am so very sorry for your pain.

I met Dan years ago when I took care of his mother, after her passing I helped with doing things for Brown. Very nice couple. So sorry for your loss, Dan was a great guy, thoughts and prayers for the family.
