Dale E. Williams

Dale E. Williams, age 80, of the Illinois Veteran’s Home, died on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in the Veteran’s Home. He was born on December 31, 1933 in New Canton, IL, a son of Oren & Hilda (Kistner) Williams.

Dale had many jobs in his life. He worked on a farm with his parents and then came to Quincy where he worked several jobs including Modern Dairy and Motorola. He joined the U.S. Army, by request of Uncle Sam. It was there that he found his love and calling while stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, the air-cooled Volkswagen Beetle. He returned home and sold appliances for Sears until going to work on Volkswagens. Dale worked for Gene Krigbaum at Gene’s Garage for years. He then went into business with Keith Renard until he left the business and Dale opened a small garage in back of his home. He continued to work on Volkswagens until they quit producing the air-cooled models. During the ’70’s he was into the C.B. craze and took the handle “Bug Doctor”. This name stayed with him.

He got a job at the Illinois Veteran’s Home where he worked until his retirement.

Dale was involved in the early days of cart racing at TNT Kartways winning many trophies and being involved as a flagman.

He is survived by two sons, Robert Williams and his wife Jackie and David Williams and his wife Kelly, all of Quincy; two grandchildren, Jack & Jennifer Williams and a nephew, Ronnie Lundberg of Hurdland, MO.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Norma.
