Cheryl Ann Knight

Cheryl Ann Knight, age 68, of Quincy, died on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 in Sunset Home. She was born on May 19, 1953 in Quincy, the daughter of Norman D. and Mary “Ludy” (Johnson) Blanton.

Cheryl began her career at St. Mary Hospital in the Dietary Department and was retired from the Dietary Department at Blessing Hospital.

She was an amazing baker and possessed a special gift for decorating wedding and birthday cakes. Cheryl was a skilled crafter, and she could make almost anything. The children in her life were treated equally and as if they were each her own. Her longtime involvement at Washington School was noted by her being designated as an honorary teacher’s aide. Cheryl had a strong will and was determined to live a good and giving life, which she accomplished.

She is survived by her daughter, Amy Cottingham of Quincy; one granddaughter, Cassidy (fiancé Blake Robeson) Cottingham; two great grandchildren, Sophie and Brenner Robeson all of Quincy; two brothers, Mike Blanton of Aurora, IL and Greg Blanton of MO. Many beloved nieces and nephews also survive.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Steve Blanton.

A prayer service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Private interment will be in in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

    Paul & Amy – I just found out about Cheryl. I am so sorry for your loss. She was always so nice to me. And I’m not sure how much of her delicious food I ate over the years! Prayers to everyone.

    Amy – I am so sorry to read about your mom. I worked with her at Blessing Hospital. When I first got their in 1995 you mom was one of the first employees to welcome me to Blessing and Quincy. She was a great baker,an excellent worker and a great lady. She was very proud of you and Cassidy.

    I am saddened to hear of the loss of Ms. Cheryl. I had the honor of working with her as on of my residents at Sunset Home. She was a very sweet, loving lady. You could hear and feel her love for her family when she spoke of them. She always had a spark in her eyes. And the stories she would tell!! Rest In Peace Ms. Cheryl
