Charles Thomas Ervin
Charles Thomas Ervin, age 87, of the Illinois Veterans Home, died on Thursday, September 30, 2021, in the home. Charles was born on May 22, 1934, in Barry, Illinois to Paul and Gwendolyn (Padgett) Ervin. He first married Faith Kenady. Charles later married Sharon Hyde on June 22, 1998, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. She survives.
Charles was a 1952 graduate of Barry High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and received the National Defense Medal as well as the Good Conduct Award. After being discharged from the service, Charles worked as an air traffic controller.
Charles was a member of the Unitarian Church of Quincy. He loved listening to jazz music, traveling with his wife Sharon, going to the beach, and cheering for his favorite baseball team, the Saint Louis Cardinals. After their retirement, he and Sharon cherished the time spent working during the summer months at numerous national parks.
In addition to his wife Sharon, Charles is survived by two daughters, Michele Ervin, and Suzan Pender (Van), both of California; two grandsons, Bryant Pender (Shelby) of California and Brandon Ervin (Lucy Chillson) of Missouri; three great grandchildren, Emarie, Gage and Mara; his brother, Robert L. Ervin of Michigan; two step grandchildren, Justin Brammer and Tristan Brammer; and one step great granddaughter, Savannah Brammer. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Ervin; and two brothers, William Ervin, and Paul Ervin.
Cremation has been accorded to Charles. The family will host a celebration of his life at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
