Charles T. Helmer

Charles T. Helmer, age 70, of Quincy, died on Saturday, November 19, 2022 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on October 20, 1952 in Quincy the son of John E. & Esther L. (Burnett) Helmer. He married Darla Dieker on October 30, 1981. She survives.

Charles worked at Bergner’s from the time it opened in Quincy until its closing. He was of the Catholic Faith. Charles loved life. He enjoyed playing games and cards. He also liked to attend GEMS Baseball. He was also the historian of his family.

In addition to his wife Darla, Charles is also survived by:
A Brother: Richard J. Helmer (Donald) of Peoria.
Sisters-in-law: Carol and Marti
Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews and other relatives also survive.

Charles was preceded in death by siblings John E. Helmer (Adele), Edward J. Helmer, Robert D. Helmer and Michael L. Helmer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning at St. Anthony Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services at 11:00. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church, the John E. and Robert D. Helmer Scholarship at Quincy University, the Quincy Humane Society or the American Cancer Society. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    I remember Charles working at Bergner’s in the restaurant, and in later years as a custodian. Always a happy guy. He will be missed.
