Charles R. Briddle

Charles R. Briddle, 85, of 715 N. 17th Street in Quincy, and most recently of the Illinois Veterans Home, died at 12:48am on Tuesday, April 4.
Born on March 1, 1932 in Quincy, Charlie was a son of Ray Sydney and Frances Leeper Briddle. He married Carolyn Ann Kemner on October 5, 1957 in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, and she survives.

Charlie was a 1951 graduate of Notre Dame High School, and worked as a baker for Claude Underbrink of Underbrink’s Bakery before serving in the Navy for four years. He then went to work for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. and retired from Ameritech Co. after 37-½ years as a splicer and a communications serviceman.

Charlie was a member of St. Francis Church where he served as an usher and Eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, Austin’s Army, the Secular Franciscans Order, and the Knights of Columbus. He very much enjoyed traveling and attending his grandchildren’s activities.

In addition to his wife, Carolyn, Charlie is survived by his 8 children and 16 grandchildren; son Dave Briddle of Aurora, IL – his son Cole Briddle (John Rishel) of San Diego, CA; daughter Mary Kay Kochis (Stephen) of Chicago, IL – their 3 daughters Sarah Anne Granberg (Patrick) of Morton Grove, IL, Christie Kochis of Chicago, IL and Rose Kochis of River Forest, IL; daughter Margaret Renaud of Kirkwood, MO – her 3 daughters Katie Breneman (Marc) of Maryland Heights, MO, Stephanie Hullinger (Michael) of Dora, MO, Amanda Lewis of San Diego, CA; daughter Fran Huff (John) of Naperville, IL – their 3 daughters Emma Huff (fiance Mike Ferrarini) of Wheaton, IL; Allison Huff & Grace Huff of Naperville, IL; daughter Monica Hinkamper (Ric) of Quincy – their daughter Dr. Ashley Dietrich (Dr. Peter) of Wauwatosa, WI, their son Ian Hinkamper of Quincy; son Don Briddle (Dawn) of Quincy – their 2 sons Evan Briddle (fiance Claire Hopson) of St. Louis, MO, Elliot Briddle of St. Louis; son Dan Briddle (Becky) of Quincy – their son Brennan Briddle of Quincy; and daughter Theresa Quintero (Dr. Louis) of Quincy – their daughter Lia Quintero of Quincy. Charlie is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren; Caleb, Naomi, Shiloh, Abigail, Jack & Jovie; one sister Nancy Nieders of Quincy; a sister-in-law Mary Kemner and several nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his father, mother, his step-mother Doris Briddle, a brother in infancy, a son-in-law John “JR” Renaud, and brother-in-laws Fr. Kieran Kemner OFM, Fr. Gregory Kemner OFM, Jerry Kemner, and Don Kemner and his wife Margaret.

The entire Briddle-family wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude to All of the Staff & Workers at the Fifer Building of the Illinois Veterans Home for their tireless care and utmost respect given to this man whom we treasure so much.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 7:00 PM in St. Francis Church. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 6 at St. Francis Church from 4:00 PM until the time of the services at 7:00 PM. Interment with military rites will take place in Calvary Cemetery on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 1:00 PM.
Memorials may be given to the following: Franciscan Missionary Union in St. Louis, MO; to St. Francis Church Parish Center; or to QND.
