Charles G. Schmitt, age 91, of Quincy, Illinois, with the loving care of his companion Mary Summers, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 4, 2009 in Blessing Hospital.

He was born on March 26, 1918 in Quincy, Illinois, a son of Laurentius A. and Florentius W. (Menke) Schmitt. He married Dorothy M. Moller on September 27, 1949 in St. Boniface Church in Quincy, Illinois. She preceded him in death on January 19, 2002.

Charles was a member of St Francis Catholic Church.

He was a World War II veteran and served in the Illinois National Guard, ROTC.

Before his retirement in 1986, Charles was the owner of the L.A. Schmitt Dental Lab which had been started by his father.

Survivors include:
TWO SONS: Timothy G. Schmitt (Tina) of Quincy, and Thomas C. Schmitt (Rosalie) of Maumelle, AR.
TWO BROTHERS: James L. Schmitt of Metamora, IL, and Robert L. Schmitt of Quincy;
TWO GRANDCHILDREN: Christopher T. Schmitt and Isabella Schmitt of Maumelle, AR.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, and a son Edward B. Schmitt.

A private memorial mass was held in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #37. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Catholic Church.
