Charles Eugene Strader
Charles Eugene Strader, age 83, of the Illinois Veteran’s Home, Quincy
formerly of Greenup, IL, died on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 in Blessing
Hospital Emergency Room. He was born on October 19, 1929 near Chrisman, IL,
a son of George Washington & Bytha (Hampton) Strader. He first married
Eulah Brown. He later married Mildred and she preceded him in
death on July 12, 1997.
Charles served in the U.S. Army as a member of the Field Artillery during
the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany. He was a graduate of Metcalf
High School.
He was of the Baptist faith.
His employment career included working at Ettlebrick shoe factory in
Greenup, IL; the T.G. Lee Dairy, Orlando, Florida; and he worked for ten years in oil fields
in Casey, IL until his retirement in 1991.
Charles enjoyed singing at church and at the VFW in Greenup. He was also a
fan of baseball and took pride in doing yard work.
Survivors include a son, Michael E. Strader and his wife Diana
Barrera-Strader of Visalia, CA; a brother, Paul Strader of Quincy, IL;
step-grandchildren, Skye Barrera & Justin Barrera, along with nieces &
nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mildred a son, Stephen
Strader, and brothers, Wayne, Lowell, Donald, Richard, Junior and Russell.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at All
Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy. Interment will be
in Sunset Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held from 9:00
– 10:00 A.M. at All Faith’s Chapel. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in
charge of the arrangements.
