Charles Edward “Chuck” Gerding
Charles Edward “Chuck” Gerding, age 63, of 1415 Elm St., died on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 4:44 p.m. in Blessing Hospital Emergency Room. He was born on June 13, 1953 in Quincy, a son of Paul E. & Helen L. (Thien) Gerding. He married Deborah Miller on November 24, 1973 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She survives.
Chuck was a 1972 graduate of Quincy High School. He retired from ADM after thirty-eight years of service in vehicle maintenance. The last four years he has been working as a technician at Selby Implement.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
Chuck was involved for forty years working on the QND Football Chain Gang. He also coached soccer for twenty years. Chuck greatly enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren. He liked staying busy, and mowing his grass was one of the things he liked doing most. He enjoyed working on any project with his kids and grandkids by his side. He enjoyed going to all his grandkids sporting events to cheer them on.
In addition to his wife, Deborah, he is survived by six children: Krisha Ley and her husband Eric, Kasey Gerding, and Kari Weisenberger and her husband James, all of Quincy, Kourtney Dye and her husband Matt of Columbia, MO, Kaileen Martin and her husband Jared of Temecula, CA and Kody Gerding and his wife Aleshia of Quincy; fourteen grandchildren: Abigail, Olivia, Alyssa & Michael Ley; Chaydin Gerding, Bayley & Gracie Weisenberger; Madison, Kayley & Mason Dye; Alexis & Lucas Martin and Kinzie & Conner Gerding; eight siblings, Paul Gerding of Springfield, IL, Mary (James) Wienhoff of Quincy, Robert “Bob” (Esther) Gerding, Theresa Martin, and Lou (Porter) Gibson all of Quincy, William “Bill” (Catherine) Gerding of Shelbina, MO, Linda (Mike) Parks of Clinton, MO and Daniel (Karen) Gerding of Plainville; and his in-laws, Bruce (Mary) Miller and Bob (Rhonda) Miller, all of Quincy and Pam Poe of Albia, IA. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law and a nephew, Phillip Parks.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in the Church of St. Peter by Monsignor Leo Enlow. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Quincy Notre Dame Foundation or to the American Diabetes Association.

I was stunned to hear the news of Chuck’s accident and passing. He was a fantastic husband and father. I will always admire your family commitment to your faith. Known Chuck for many years. Use to deliver parts to Moormans to the shop & he later would come to Hadlers & Prairie International to pick up parts! Always a pleasure talking to him. He will truly be missed by all.
