Charles E. “Charlie” Scarber

Charles E. ‘Charlie’ Scarber, age 36, of Ursa, died on October 7, 2020 in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born March 28, 1984 in Quincy , the son of Charles & Jacquelyn (Hurley) Scarber. He was a graduate of Unity High School. He married Avary Garner on August 5, 2006. She survives.

Charlie enjoyed spending time with his wife and their two children. He loved teaching his daughter art skills and singing with her. He also loved teaching his son how to shoot plus work on their truck. Charlie loved playing and snuggling the family dogs and the cat. He was always excited to see pets of family, friends and strangers. Charlie loved being the goofy Uncle. He could always be counted on for laughter and life learning talks. All his nieces and nephews loved him and his silly voices and faces.

Charlie was also a friend, mentor and brother. He never knew a stranger and enjoyed talking. Several times he would tell the same story to everyone. You could always count on him for help and advice. He was always willing to drop what he was doing to go and help others.

Charlie was an avid motorcycle rider and was the President of the Dread Knight Riding Club. There he was called Chief and was just that. He was always there for all of his club brothers and their families. Together they have helped out around the community.

Charlie was a very talented man. He was the singer of two bands, Turning Point and Days Taken. He could play guitar and enjoyed teaching his son. Since a young age he was very artistic and passed that to his daughter. His latest talent was making hand crafted leather. He enjoyed doing all sorts of projects.

Charlie met the love of his life when they were just kids. They started dating in December 2001 and in May of 2003 Charlie proposed.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children: Angel and Charlie; aunts and uncles: Donna Clines of Arizona, Melissa (Hurley) Buhrmester, husband Troy of Quincy, Rhonda (Hurley) Webster, husband Kent of Quincy and Scott Hurley of Fowler. Countless nieces and nephews and his brothers in the Dread Knight Riding Club also survive.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Scarber Family through a fund established at State Street Bank.

I was so sorry to hear of Charlie’s death. I always enjoyed listening to Jackie talk about her son, Charlie and I know she looked so forward to sharing a home with you all. Both were taken far too soon and I pray that your memories sustain you in the days and months ahead. May God provide you the strength and comfort, you will be in my prayers! Teresa Pickle

Charlie’s passing breaks my heart, as it has even more so for so so many others. It had been some time since we spoke, but Charlie was one of my best friends during a very important part of my life. I will never forget him. The music we made together has shaped me forever.
