Carolyn J. Meckes
Carolyn J Meckes, of 916 N. 36th St Quincy, IL died at 7:45a.m, Friday January 10th at Blessing Hospital.
She was born April 26, 1932, Loranie, IL; a daughter of Roscoe and Eva (Littleton) Riddle, she married Raymond Meckes November 27, 1954 in St. Rose of Lima Church.
She was a 1950 graduate of Q.H.S from there she went on to work for the Quincy Herald Whig for 48 years. She was also a member of Saint Francis Catholic Church.
Carolyn loved to bowl and enjoyed playing cards with her friends at their monthly club gatherings. She was a volunteer for the meals on wheels and the information desk at Blessing Hospital. The thing she loved the most were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was loved by all of her family.
She is survived by her husband Raymond of 59 years, her son, Steve Meckes and his wife, Cathy, of Quincy, IL; her daughter; Susan Gooding and her husband, Chad, of Fargo, ND; a son Tim Meckes, and his wife, Paula, of Danville, KY; 13 grandchildren, Emily (John) Hawkinson, MaryAlice Meckes, Will Meckes; Sara (Hugh) Freeze, Ashley (Dave) Houghton, Ryan Long, Amber Long, Samantha, Chase and Chloe Gooding; Alex, Maddie and Max Meckes; 2 great grandchildren Jayce Long, Jackson Houghton; two brothers: Donald Riddle and his wife Marylou and Wayne Riddle, Sisters in law: Shirley Bornman, Maryann Gelfand and her husband David, Patsy Meckes and Ann Meckes and a special friend Fr. James Wheeler
She was preceded in death, by her parents; brothers in law, Doctor Richard Meckes and Russell Bornman.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 10:00 am in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:30 in St. Francis Church, Quincy, with the Rev. James Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation: 4 to 7p.m Tuesday evening in the Duker and Haugh Funeral home.
Memorials: Samantha Otte Fund, St. Francis Church and Quincy Humane Society.
