Carol Sue Roe
Carol Sue Roe age 80, of Liberty, died on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 3:57 p.m. in the Emergency Room of Blessing Hospital. Carol was born June 26, 1933 in Quincy, a daughter of John Raymond and Audrey Marie (Fesler) Crawford. She married Ralph LeRoy Roe on June 11, 1955 in Richfield Christian Church, Ralph preceded her in death on February 12, 1990.
Carol was the Valedictorian of the graduating class of Liberty High School in 1951. She went on to graduate with honors from Quincy College. She taught in Payson for one year, and then taught primarily fourth grade at Liberty School for 46 years until her retirement.
Carol was a lifelong farmer, an occupation that she loved. She milked cows, raised hogs, and would say that she “put herself through college raising sheep and hogs”. She was a member of the Liberty Christian Church and was active at the church in the choir for many years.
She was a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association, the Liberty American Legion Auxiliary and the National Hereford Association. She was part-owner of C&E Hereford, and she was passionate about her Hereford’s. Carol was very supportive and always in attendance for her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Her favorite pastimes were going to county fairs, gospel music concerts, and spending time with her fellow-retired teachers and friends.
She also was an avid St. Louis Cards Baseball fan.
Survivors include her three sons, Brent (Margaret) Roe of Quincy; Lance (Jeanna) Roe and Blaine (Tara) Roe all of Liberty; her grandchildren, Chaise (Meredith Gibbs) Roe, Erica (Daniel) Burnett; Tayton and Taryn Roe. Two great-grandaughters, Linnlei and Paislei Burnett and one on the way. A sister-in-law Dorothy Roe of Highland, IL; two nephews, Charles Roe of Raleigh, NC and Robert Roe of Oklahoma City, OK; two cousins, Glen (Joann) Crawford of Maquoketa, IA and Jackie (Richard) Dye of Charlotte, MI.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Lynn Suzanne Roe and a sister, Mitzi Crawford.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2104 at 10:00 a.m. in the Liberty Christian Church by Rev. Terry Henry. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Liberty Christian Church, and Thursday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the church. To Blain, Brent, Lance and family we are so sorry to hear of your loss. We had every intention of sending flowers however we didn’t know when the funeral was.
