Carol S. Melvin
Carol S. Melvin, age 82, of Quincy, died on Thursday, September 26, 2024, in her home. She was born on February 21, 1942 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of Estel and Helen (Hufford) Holeman. She married David Perkins. She later married Frank Melvin. He preceded her in death.
Carol worked at various trades throughout the years. She was a school bus driver, CNA, worked at the Arsenal in Kankakee and at Colts Manufacturing, and she was a bartender. Her favorite occupation was when she was a truck driver with her husband, Frank. She attended the Salvation Army Worship Theatre.
She enjoyed family, gardening and her animals.
She is survived by:
SEVEN CHILDREN: Mark Perkins (Linn Wright), Sherry Summers (Ronald), Debbie Smith (Ralph), Sandy Owsley (Rod Lish), Kristie Strieker (Donald) and Dana Perkins and Kim Spray (Bob).
49 GRANDCHILDREN, 63 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, and 3 GREAT-GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
In addition to her husband, Carol was preceded in death by 4 grandchildren: Brian, Michael, Timothy, and Monte, a great-grandchild: Riley, and siblings: Virgil, Francis, Linda and Sharon Kay.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the Worship Theatre of the Salvation Army Kroc Center. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Worship Theatre on Friday from 12:00 noon until the time of the services at 1:00 PM. Memorials may be made to Quincy Humane Society. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
