Carlene Joanna Soebbing

Carlene Joanna Soebbing, age 91, of 301 North 8th, died on Thursday, January 4, 2018 in her home. She was born on March 31, 1926 in Quincy, the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Herald) Doellman. She married Hubert Soebbing on April 23, 1947. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1979.

Mrs. Soebbing was a 1944 graduate of Notre Dame High School. For 22 years, she was employed by Stauffer Truck Lines, retiring in 1991.

Carlene was a member of St. Anthony Parish and active there in the Ladies Society, Quilters and We Care Society. She was also involved in Quincy Cursillo and was a long time volunteer with the Ladies of Charity. Carlene also spent many hours making quilts, afghans, needlework and Christmas ornaments for her children and grandchildren. All of these gifts will always be treasured.

Survivors include five sons: Paul (Cindi) Soebbing; Phillip (Jeanne) Soebbing; and Gene (Ann) Soebbing all of Quincy; Joe (Monica) Soebbing of Hampshire, IL; and Jerry Soebbing of Payson, IL; two daughters: Theresa (Margaret Kastigar) Soebbing of Crestwood, MO and Mary (Tony) Kaminsky of Edwardsville, IL; Three sisters: Mary (Bill) Birchfield and Alice Doellman of Quincy and Suzanne (Earl) Richmiller of Liberty, IL. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Carlene was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister: Phyllis Caruso and two brothers: Joseph and Bernard Doellman.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 9:15 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church or to Camp Callahan.
