Carlene F. Bliven

Carlene F. Bliven age 90, of Quincy died on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 4:10 p.m. in her home. Mrs. Bliven was born in Adams County, IL on January 27, 1927. Carlene was the oldest daughter of Francis and Flora (Schaffnit) Peters. She married Chester “Chet” Bliven on February 3, 1945 in St. Peter Catholic Church. Chet died on April 17, 1991.

Mrs. Bliven was a homemaker early in her marriage and then later worked at Boatmen’s Bank until her retirement. She was a 1944 graduate of Quincy High School.

She was member of Blessed Sacrament Parish where she had been a member of the Altar Society. Carlene enjoyed reading and playing cards.

Surviving are her son, Steven M. Bliven of Colorado Springs, CO; her daughter, Vicky Nieders and her husband Steven of Quincy; Six grandchildren, Elizabeth Bliven of Austin, TX; Olivia Bliven of Houston, TX; Bradley, Stephanie, Amanda, Paige Nieders all of Quincy; and nine great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Marjorie Humphrey of Lebanon, OH; Cynthia Scheufele of Waukesha, WI and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Bliven was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother David Peters, two sisters Joan (Dan) Durand; Dolores (Richard) O’Donnell; her mother and father-in-law, Milo and Elsie Bliven; and three brothers-in-law, Joseph Humphrey, Junior (Ethel Lee) Bliven and Robert (Nancy) Bliven and a sister-in-law Alma (Frank) Wittkopf.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Church or Grade School, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
