Carl “Lucci” Leroy Steele
Carl “Lucci” Leroy Steele age 51, of Springfield, IL formerly of Quincy passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 1:43 p.m. in St. John Hospital, Springfield, IL. Carl was born in Quincy on June 18, 1969 to Wanda Buckner and Donald Leroy Steele. Carl was raised by Helen and Ben Bumbry.
Carl was employed at the Family Dollar Warehouse in Springfield where he made pallets. Carl was a graduate of Quincy Senior High School where he was an avid football player. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Carl liked fishing and reading, most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his companion, Trisha VonBurg; his daughters, Wanda Steele and Mika Allison; his sons, Devere Gholston, TeCarl Steele, Dreshawn Steele and Zane Steele. Three sisters, Altheia L. Buckner, Donitta Betts and Doneta Steele. Four brothers, Donald Steele, Jr., Jake Steele, Wayne Steele and Warren Steele. An uncle, Robert Leon Robbins, his aunts, Wilma Buckner, Diane Starling and Donna Wilkerson. A special uncle and aunts Rolland Steele, Sheila Steele, and Linda Steele Smith and his special cousins who were like his brother and sister, Jeff Steele and Leslie D. Steele. Nieces, Alexis and Brittany Smith, grandchildren and a host of other cousins and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his mother Wanda Buckner, his father Donald Leroy Steele, Grandparents, Ellen and James Buckner, Rena Steele Payne and Carl Leon Dorsey.
A Private Funeral Service is planned. Family and Friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Those attending visitation are kindly asked to wear a mask and observe distancing guidelines. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery. A repast is planned at First Baptist Church after the funeral services on Friday.

I want to express my deepest condolences to all of the family members of Carl Steele. I’m sorry that I’m unable to attend the visitation. You are gone but not forgotten my brother. Those childhood memories of us will last with me forever…
