Carl Dean Adair, 86, of Quincy, and formerly of Lima, went to be with his Lord on Friday December 29, 2017 at Blessing Hospital after a hard fought fight with cancer.

Carl was born August 23, 1931 in rural Adams County to Lewis and Amanda (McNay) Adair. He married Alice Ehrhardt on July 22, 1967. They recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary together. He graduated from Gem City Business School and served in the US Army during the Korean War as a weapons and equipment tester in Churchill, Canada. He served on the Adams County Farm Bureau Board.

Carl touched many lives through his work as a farmer, piano tuner, and bus driver. He was always willing to help someone – from picking up hitchhikers to aiding neighbors and friends, he was always looking out for others. His love of music, dancing, and baseball was infectious. He taught many nieces and nephews to square dance and was excellent at judging an umpire’s ability to call a baseball game. He especially enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s activities, from sports and music to driveway basketball games between the kids and adults.

A very faithful man, Carl was a current member of St. Francis church and a long-time member of St. Edward’s Parish Council. He taught catechism for many years, having been certified by the Diocese of Springfield to teach in the Confraternity Parish School of Religion. Carl was also proud to have participated in the choir for over 50 years.

Carl is survived by his wife Alice (Ehrhardt), children, Edward Adair (Cindy Weivoda), Lisa (Chad) Massner, Rhonda (Tim) Basler, Kara (Brandon) Spalding, and Steven (Amy) Adair. Seven grandchildren, Courtney, Blake and Brenden Massner, Robert and Joseph Basler, Alicen Spalding and Ava Adair. One sister, Doris Cornwell and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Leo and Jesse Adair; and sisters, Marjorie Hurley, Ruth Andrew and Mildred Reiter Downs.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
