Brian D. Vahlkamp
Brian “Chomps” D. Vahlkamp age 52, of Quincy died on Saturday, November 13, 2021. Brian was born in Quincy on May 1, 1969, a son of Raymond “Skip” and Teresa (Haiducek) Vahlkamp. He married his high school sweetheart, Melissa L. Waterkotte, on September 4, 1993, in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church and she survives.
Brian was a 1987 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Programming from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, MO.
Brian had worked as a computer programmer and analyst for 30 years. He was formerly a co-owner of Emerald City Solar and, most recently, was a Rural Route Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
Brian grew up playing soccer and became a strong force on the QND and NEMO soccer teams. He continued to be involved in sports and enjoyed watching his kids play their sports. He had a lot of fun playing indoor soccer and in the adult wooden bat softball league at the Knights of Columbus. You could catch him cheering for the Cardinals baseball and Bears football teams.
Brian grew up enjoying the outdoors with his family, Grandpa Penie and many uncles and friends. He enjoyed his time on the river and learned to run traps and trotlines, as well as to waterski. He enjoyed camping with family as he grew up and spent many summers taking his family camping. He had many fun times camping and fishing at Mark Twain Lake during the Haiducek family reunions. He spent many hours at the family farm hunting dove, squirrels, turkey and deer as well as fishing in Lake Penie.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Mississippi Valley Hunters and Fishermen’s Association and the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife Melissa, survivors include his parents, Skip and Teresa Vahlkamp; his three children, Lauren (Joshua Brunk) Vahlkamp of Elizabethton, TN; Alec Vahlkamp and Wyatt Vahlkamp both of Quincy. Siblings, Susan Vahlkamp, Keith Vahlkamp, Judy Vahlkamp, and Bernard (Mary Pat) Vahlkamp all of Quincy. His mother-in-law, Carolyn Waterkotte and a sister-in-law Amanda Waterkotte both of Quincy. Nieces and nephews, Sarah (Jeffrey Medlin) Vahlkamp, Jake Vahlkamp, Zachary Vahlkamp and Isabella Benner all of Quincy. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends also survive.
He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his father-in-law, Thomas Waterkotte.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church by Rev. Tom Donovan. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Church, and Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church Memorials are suggested to the Mississippi Valley Hunters and Fishermen’s Association, the Knights of Columbus or to Quincy Notre Dame High School.

My son, Corey Waters, played soccer with Chomps. They were good friends. He will be missed.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Brian. “Chomps” was a great teammate at Truman State/NE Missouri who always gave his best efforts for his team on the soccer field and off… it made him a great captain in his senior year. I will always remember his great sense of humour, his great smile and awesome laugh. What a guy. I’m wishing his family all the best and hoping you can celebrate his life together during this difficult time.
