Blanche Carolyn Haughey
Blanche Carolyn Haughey, age 100, of the Sunset Home, formerly of 301 N. 8th, died on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 in Sunset Home. She was born on March 14, 1911 in Quincy, the daughter of Robert L. & Anna (Adolphs) Haughey. She was a 1929 Notre Dame academy. Ms. Haughey worked at CIPS for 42 years, retiring as stenographer and doing bookkeeping. Ms. Haughey was a longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and helped with the bookkeeping at the church from the time the new St. Boniface was built until she officially retired in 2000. Blanche loved going to high school and college basketball. She was interested in music and loved jazz. In 1999 she received an award through Mercantile Bank for her avid sportsmanship. She was a member of the first women’s bowling teams in Quincy.
She is survived by: NIECES: Connie Kistner and her husband David of Quincy, Jane McDevitt and her husband Don of Wilmington, NC;
GREAT-NIECES AND GREAT-NEPHEWS: Jim McDevitt, Dan McDevitt, Joe McDevitt and his wife Teresa, Dennis McDevitt and his wife Kelley, Donna Jones, Robbie Strieker, Justin Haughey and Christopher Kistner.
SISTER-IN-LAW: Rita Haughey
Numerous Great-Great nieces and great-great nephews also survive.
Blanche was preceded in death by a brother: Robert “Bob” Haughey, a sister: Harriet Bunten and her husband Jim, niece: Krisann Strieker and nephews: Jeffrey Haughey and Doug Jones.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Church of St. Peter. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the services at the church. Memorials may be made to AMFAR or to the Salvation Army. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home
