Billy (Bill) J. Moore, of Quincy, Illinois, died peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by family and friends on Monday evening, July 25.
He was born December 12, 1932 in Dennison, Illinois, son of the late James R. and Ella M. Nye Moore. Bill married Mary Ann Wiemelt on July 16, 1953 at St. Francis Solanus Church. The couple celebrated their 69th anniversary this month.

Bill enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, helping his kids remodel houses and traveling globally to see his children and grandchildren, as well as watching them play sports. He was also an avid supporter of Quincy University sports. He was a Machinist for Knapheide Manufacturing Company for 22 years, retiring in 1995 to devote his life to family and hobbies. Prior to that, he spent 18 years with The Kroger Company in Quincy.

He attended Franklin School and graduated in 1950 from Quincy High School and then served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 during The Korean War. Bill was a member of St. Francis Solanus Church and was a member of the St. Francis Holy Name Society. Bill was also a member of the Machinists Retiree’s Club, Machinists Lodge #822, Western Catholic Union, Quincy University Mart Heinen Club, Roundballers Booster Club and a lifetime member of the South Side Boat Club.

Survivors include three sons and a daughter, Bob (Sherry) of Wildwood, MO; Linda K. Moore of Quincy; Kenneth R. (Cathy) Moore of Alpharetta, GA; and John E. “Johnny” Moore of Quincy. Ten grandchildren survive including Brian (Lindsay) Moore of Wildwood, MO; Mark Moore of Eureka, MO; Karen (Kyle) Ostwald of Elizabethtown, PA; Colin and Kaitlyn Moore of Alpharetta, GA; Cedric and Samuel Moore of Zurich, Switzerland; Jennifer (Danny) Milner of Grayson, GA; Andrea (Michael) Lomax of Daphne, AL; and Kevin (Ashley) Kwater of Wildwood, MO. Also surviving include eight greatgrandchildren including Shaylee and Cooper Moore of Wildwood, MO; Mackenzie Ostwald of Elizabethtown, PA; Parker and Ella Lomax of Daphne, AL; Patrick Milner of Grayson, GA; and Penelope and Quinn Kwater of Wildwood, MO. There are also several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Moore; his mother, Ella M. Nye Moore and father, James R. Moore, and his sister Beverly; three brothers, James R., Paul and Donald and their spouses; a nephew Kelly Moore and a niece Jeanine Crim.

Visitation will be held at St. Francis Solanus Church in Quincy on Friday, July 29, from 4-7 p.m. and a funeral mass will be held at the Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 30, with internment and full military rights to follow at Calvary Cemetery where he will join many family members in his final resting place. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Blessing Hospital Hospice, St. Francis School, Quincy University Athletics, or the charity of donor’s choice.
