Beverly Buehner

Beverly Buehner, long-time resident of Quincy, IL, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, June 26, 2018 in Springfield, IL. She was 96.

Beverly is survived by her only son, John E. Buehner and his wife, Molly Hall Buehner (Petersburg, IL) ; her granddaughter, Allison Buehner (Chicago, IL); and her sister-in-law, Mary Sunderland (Quincy). She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John B. Buehner; her parents, Edward and Evelyn Swanborn; her four brothers, Melvin, Frank, Edward, and Robert Swanborn; and her sister-in-law, Betty Delabar.

Beverly was born in Chicago on December 9, 1921. She had a 20 year career at Illinois Bell in Chicago, then enrolled at Illinois State Normal University to pursue a teaching certificate. On November, 19, 1960, she married John B. Buehner, a podiatrist practicing in Beardstown, IL, where she later moved. On July 22, 1962, John and Beverly welcomed their only son, John E. Buehner who was the most important part of her life. In March of 1975, Beverly completed her Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education, and four years later in 1979, her Masters of Science in Education at Western Illinois University. She was a teacher in Beardstown throughout that time and taught for nearly 30 years.

Beverly was a devoted wife and mother, beloved school teacher of the Beardstown community, and trusted friend. She as an active member of the Quincy community, attending church at St. Anthony Catholic Church with her husband every Sunday. She and her husband traveled to Illinois State University in Normal, IL for every game in which her son played drums in the Big Red Marching Machine during his time in college. A highlight of her life, she enjoyed music, and attended as many of his bands’ shows as possible. Beverly and her husband John moved to Springfield in 2015. Beverly will be deeply missed by her friends and family.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of the services. The family requests that memorials be given to a charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
