Over the years, Betty was a great contributor to our community. She served many years as a member of the Ladies of Charity and eventually took on the role of President for this Vincentian ministry serving the poor. She worked countless hours for the American Red Cross, including working blood drives and assisting during the Flood of 1993. She was a proud member of the TOPS  Club (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) weight-loss program for 46 years and an advocate for living a healthy lifestyle.

Betty attended St. Francis Grade School and graduated from Quincy High School in 1943. She attended Blessed Sacrament (formerly St. Mary’s) Catholic Church where she was a member of the women’s ministry. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Knights of Columbus Council 583 and retired from Sears, Roebuck, and Co. after working in the catalog department for 20 years.

Betty and Virgil enjoyed camping, taking extended vacations each summer. Over the years, they traveled to the 48 contiguous states, with many return trips to Florida. They would often take their grandchildren on camping adventures and, later in life, they enjoyed spending their winters at Bentsen Grove RV & Mobile Home Resort in Mission, Texas, until 2003. In addition to traveling, they found the greatest joy with one another on the dance floor, often recalling their meeting at the White House Tavern & Dance Hall back in October 1942.

Her Catholic faith was a significant part of Betty’s life. She was a prayer warrior for her family, often praying multiple rosaries per day for the intentions of her loved ones.

She was a model for all of us, loving, concerned for others, generous, humble, and more. She served her brothers and sisters and in doing so served our God. May she quickly see the face of Gid. Our sympathy to her family and the many who counted her a friend.

Betty was such a lovely lady and certainly her obituary attests to that! While I am sad for her loss, I am happy that she is at peaceful rest now. May God generously reward her for all her labors. Ad may the many beautiful memories make the pain of loss a little less. You are all in my thoughts and prayer.
