Betty Menke

Betty K. Menke, age 88, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 2302 Cherry Lane Estates West, died on May 29, 2017 in the Good Samaritan Home. She was born on December 7, 1928, the daughter of Earl & Mabel (Pitzer) Hayden. She married Charles Menke on January 12, 1952. He survives.

Betty was a secretary in the Quincy Public School System, serving at Webster, Adams, and Baldwin Schools over the years. She was a member of the Vermont Street Methodist Church. Betty enjoyed Square Dancing and Clogging. She also liked camping and sewing. She was an avid walker for many years. However, Betty’s favorite times were those spent with her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by:
TWO CHILDREN: Jerri Deming and her husband Skip of Columbia, MO; and Donna Phillips of Quincy
THREE GRANDCHILDREN: Scott Sergent; Jason Sergent and his wife Monica and James ‘Jay’ Briscoe
NINE GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN; Claire and Harper Sergent; Hannah and Maddy Sergent; Alysha, Kayla, Gavin, Jaden and Reese Briscoe.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers: Kenneth Hayden and Jimmie Hayden.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Vermont Street Methodist Church. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
