Betty Jo Klossing
Betty Jo Klossing, age 80, of 1825 Chestnut St., Quincy, died on Saturday, July 25, 2015 in Blessing Hospital. She was born on February 2, 1935 in Quincy the daughter of Sam B. & Florence E. (Hayden) Smith. She married Willis S. Klossing on November 9, 1957 in St. Boniface Rectory in Quincy. He survives.
After graduating from Quincy High School in 1953, Betty helped to raise her younger siblings. She began taking flying lessons at Doc’s Airport in West Quincy with an interest in joining the US Air Force. She worked at the International Shoe Factory until she married Willis in 1957. After marrying, she became a wife to Willis, a mother to Mary and Mark and eventually a grandmother to Emma.
Betty was a member of St. Francis Parish for over 40 years. She enjoyed Bible Study groups and the people she met through them. Because she valued reading and knew the importance of education, she volunteered as an adult literacy tutor. Betty also loved cooking, gardening and crocheting, sharing her talents with family and friends.
For many years, Betty and Willis enjoyed their time babysitting the children of working friends and family and then later, the children of some of those same children. If not already family, many became like family.

TWO CHILDREN: Mary Ridder and her husband Paul of Quincy and Mark E. Klosing also of Quincy.
A GRANDDAUGHTER: Emma L. Ridder of Quincy
TWO SISTERS: Mary L. Huner; Linda S. Irick and her husband Dan.
A BROTHER: Sam B. “Sonny” Smith, II and his wife Linda
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Mathilda “Tillie” Redner, and Judy K. Taylor and Brothers: Charles, Robert “Bob”, Jackie L., Gordon “Goy”, and Larry R. Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Adams County. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
